The rose cut gemstones are cut using a specialized type of ornamental lathe. Traditionally used to engrave, or “turn” intricate, geometric, and wavy patterns in metals, wood or ivory.
It works by using a set of cams, known as “rosettes” to guide a cutting tool, creating patterns that often resemble flower petals, spirals, or complex Spirograph designs.
I have retrofit the machine to use gemstone cutting attachments and create what I call, the Rose Cut.
